Believe it or not, but learning how to dunk doesn’t have as much to do with your height as you might think. In the end, learning how to dunk comes down to training and conditioning. When you have both of these things in equal amounts, you’re going to find yourself that much closer to dunking like a pro.

Lose some weight:
Besides the assorted health benefits that come with dropping even ten pounds, you’re going to find it that much easier to achieve the air time necessary for dunking. You’re also taking some pressure off your knees and legs, which your body is definitely going to thank you for.
Condition your upper body: If you’re training to dunk, then you want to basically train your whole body. Don’t just focus on your legs. What you want is consistency throughout your body, in order to achieve the fluid motion you need to dunk.
Change your diet: Obviously, losing weight and conditioning your body are going to be considerably easier, when your diet is in harmony with the rest of your plans. That also means drinking plenty of water.
I know I’ve been writing a lot about this one lately. But it’s important. Whether you’re about to play some one on one with a friend, or if you just want to practice dunking, it should go without saying that you want to stretch before doing anything of substance on the court.
You’re also going to want to do some light warm ups before playing a game or practicing, followed by some additional light cooling down exercises afterward. The last thing you’re going to want to do is injure something like your hamstring.
Start things on a simple note:
You’re not going to recreate iconic Kobe or Air Jordan moments right out of the gate. They didn’t. They practiced. And then they practiced. And then they practiced some more. You’re going to have to do the same thing. Start off by lowering the rim, and then gradually increasing it as time and your experience level goes on.

How to dunk with a smaller ball:
You might want to start with a smaller ball in your dunking exercises. It will be easier to dunk and controlling the ball. You can still use a bigger ball for dribbling and shooting exercises.
Increase your vertical jump:
